Want to Take a Group Bath?

Now that I have your attention 🙂 let me introduce you to the science and magic behind the Gong Sound Bath!  Imagine being submerged in an ocean of sound as you sit or lay down, eyes closed, and enter a state of full body relaxation.

The gong is a powerful healing tool that takes the form of a flat metal disc which is hit with a mallet. Like other sound tools, the gong uses vibrational sound and frequency to deeply relax the mind and the body, to reduce stress, and to alter consciousness.  Within about 20 minutes of experiencing a gong bath, your brain changes state and your body relaxes — and then the powerful work begins.

Once in total body relaxation, the infinite wisdom of the body takes over and dictates what happens next.  Maybe you drop into a deep rejuvenating sleep.  Maybe you have visualizations or inspirations.  Maybe certain emotions bubble to the surface, ready to finally be released.  Whatever happens is perfect because it’s a result of activating your body’s natural healing processes.

The power of sound has a tremendous healing effect on the body.  Sound travels about 5 times faster through water than it does through air.  Since our bodies are about 70% water, sound becomes a natural and deeply penetrating healing modality.  And though many people now believe that sound is the medicine of the future, some don’t realize that it was also the medicine of the past … the very ancient past.

Today we have scientific equipment to prove the power behind sound waves.  Think ultrasound.  An ultrasound is simply a procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to create images inside the body.  And ever had a kidney stone?  A common treatment is Shock Wave Lithotripsy which aims high-energy shock waves (sound waves) at the kidney from outside the body.  These waves travel through the skin and break up the stone into smaller pieces that can be more easily passed.

The ancient civilizations didn’t need the “scientific proof” of modern technology to know the healing power of sound.  They understood that harmonious sounds have a healing effect on the body at a cellular level. Drums and rattles have been used for thousands of years.  The low frequency sounds from drums and the high frequencies from rattles were (and still are) known to accelerate healing.  Drums cause your brainwaves to slow to a theta brainwave state (where we go during REM sleep) and that is where deep emotional healing occurs.  The didgeridoo is another sound healing tool that dates back well over 40,000 years in the Aboriginal culture in Australia.  They healed broken bones and other illnesses with that musical instrument.

Gong Sound Baths and other healing modalities using sound are becoming more and more common as more people come to understand the healing power of sound.  A simple Google search can help you locate options in your area.
